Should I repair this or look for a replacement instead?

Brad threlfallNew Member#3 Got a Komatsu PC130-7 and I've done plenty of welding before, but this is my first excavator arm repair.
DDougSuper User#4 Do you have welding experience with HSS? What process are you planning to use? Do you have lineboring equipment to recut it after?
NigeLegend#5 I've seen plenty of info out there about how to repair and rebuild Cat excavator sticks, though I'm not sure what's available for Komatsu. If you go the repair route, you'll need to cut holes in the box section big enough to get inside for welding. You'll probably also want some kind of fixture to hold everything in place while you're doing the initial welding. From what I've dealt with, trying to weld stick cracks just from the outside usually doesn't hold up.

DDougSuper User#7 Yeah, okay.
NigeLegend#8 I've been down that road before. All the welding needed to piece it back together runs a serious risk of pulling those bores out of alignment. It's a tough situation.
John C.Super User#9 I've seen this fixed a few times before. Usually they cut out the original bore, scrap it, and weld in a new piece of heavy tubing instead. After that, they line bore the tube so it'll accept the factory bushings. What attachments are you running on the end of your stick?
CamshawnJunior Member#10 IC Weld has some videos on YouTube where he does excavator stick repairs. You'll get a decent sense of what goes into that kind of work from watching how he does it.
