I have a 317g with the keyless start. It stalled when I was working. When I tried to restart it turned over really slow and now will not turn over at all. I push the button and get the first beep, wait for the second beep then push the button and nothing happens. I have checked the fuses and relays. All safety switches indicate they are working. Battery is fully charged at 13.8 volts and I tried a different battery. Any suggestions on what could be the problem or what to check next?
Deere 317G engine won't turn over

kkcompJunior Member#1 BullittJunior Member#2 Any errors or warnings on the display? Does the display show machine hours? When you turn it the ignition on it should display at least the model.
kkcompJunior Member#3 Display is same as it has been. 1007 hours no active codes and only error code is a stored one for exhaust filter that won't clear.
BullittJunior Member#4 Pretty low hours; that's a good sign. 1: Stalling when it was running 2: Slow turn over when trying to restart 3: Now nothing is happening when trying to start again I'm inferring that nothing happening means you aren't hearing anything happening when trying to start the machine, not even a click from the starter (correct me if I am wrong). If you do hear the starter solenoid click, then this changes things pretty dramatically. I'm also inferring that the display is operational based on the reported hour meter and code information you gave. Since you already checked the fuses, the next thing I would want to check is the chassis to engine ground connection. Sometimes I will take jumper cables straight from the battery's negative terminal and clamp them on a bare-metal part of the engine away from the fan and belt. Just a quick test. Then I would get a multimeter on the B+ terminal and make sure you have battery voltage. From there, put the meter on the S terminal and see if you are getting any voltage when you are commanding a start. If you rule out an engine ground issue, and you have voltage to the B+ terminal of the starter, then I'd need a serial number to pull up an accurate wiring diagram for your machine.
kkcompJunior Member#5 Correct there is not even a click just silent. Will have to do testing tomorrow since the machine is in the woods and it's raining like crazy. The cable is easy but B+ and S are a question. Where are they located? Will also get serial number just in case.
BullittJunior Member#6 B+ will be the large gauge wire going to the bigger stud on the starter; it is downstream of a large amp fuse and often used as a junction as well. The S terminal, often referred to as the 'exciter' terminal, will be a smaller gauge wire going to the smaller terminal of the starter solenoid.
kkcompJunior Member#7 Apologies for what may be a dumb question but where is the starter located on the machine?
kkcompJunior Member#8 I mean left side right side from the cab or from the back?
WishopeNew Member#9 I’d start with the battery cables, grounds, and starter circuit. A battery can show 13.8V and still have a bad connection under load, especially since another battery made no difference. Check and clean the battery terminals, engine/frame grounds, and starter cable. Then see if the starter solenoid is getting a start signal when you press the button. If it gets the signal but doesn’t crank, suspect the starter/solenoid. If there’s no signal, trace the keyless start/interlock circuit. Since it stalled first and then cranked slower, I also wouldn’t rule out the engine being mechanically hard to turn. Any stored fault codes would help narrow it down.
mg2361Senior Member#10 Before you start tipping the cab or digging to check cables, follow this procedure and report back (with a machine serial number as well please). Ignition on (does the light on the SSM remain on?) Press and hold the menu button until the words SERVICE MENU appear in the screen. Press the menu button to scroll to diagnostics, press select. Scroll to switches, press select. Scroll to Aux Flow Set/Aux Flow Neutral. What does it say next to Aux Flow Neutral? If it says ON, then that is why it will not crank.
kkcompJunior Member#11 Tried the cable from battery to the bracket holding the exhaust with no change. Serial for reference.

Aux Flow Neutral is 3 dashed lines. SSM light stays on. I can hear the fuel pump clicking and all buttons indicating they are changing state.
kkcompJunior Member#13 I show the following active codes: 522577.11 3719.00 520760.02 There are several stored codes but they are exhaust related and diagnostics shows low soot level. How do I clear stored codes and start fresh?
mg2361Senior Member#14 kkcomp said: How do I clear stored codes and start fresh? Click to expand... Stored codes can be cleared from the service menu. However, active codes cannot be cleared until the issue is resolved. 3719.00 This one will derate the engine, but it will not prevent startup. This code can only be cleared by the dealer after both a DPF Recovery followed by a Service Regeneration has been performed. This code usually indicates an issue with the aftertreatment system, the engine, or the operator has been ignoring the regen's and shutting the machine down when they should be waiting for the regen to complete. 522577.11 Parked regeneration not performed. 520760.02 Camera signal invalid. Aux Neutral dashed lines usually indicates a communication issue. If you work the thumb wheel on the right lever, do the dashed lines go away? Will it crank if you work the thumb wheel while trying to crank? Dashed lines also tells me it most likely will not be the auxiliaries stuck in the on position. If it still won't crank, then proceed with cable/ground connections. Check your messages.

So if I am reading you right I am operating with reduced power until I have a dealer clear the 3719 code?

So if I am reading you right I am operating with reduced power until I have a dealer clear the 3719 code? Click to expand... Yes and no. If 3719 is active then yes you are derated. You MAY be able to clear the inducement IF soot load has not reached such an elevated threshold that the machine has locked out the service menu exhaust -> service cleaning -> parked cleaning function. If it has been running under inducement for a long time, chances are pretty good that JDSA or Yanmar SA-D will be required to either do a recovery, or if it is very soot loaded the DPF may need to be removed and serviced and the dealer software will have to register a exchange. This is a issue to contend with once the machine is running again. The inducement is not keeping the machine from enabling the starter. The starter is on the right hand side of the back of the engine (lift the cab) if my memory is correct. If you have voltage at the B+ and S terminal of the starter, but no engagement, this is just be a matter of a bad starter, and the engine stalling could be a side effect the high soot load. If you have B+ and no S voltage, the machine is not commanding the engine to start, and we have to figure out why .
kkcompJunior Member#17 I have someone coming on site today to look at it. If there is any changes I will post it.
kkcompJunior Member#18 I think we found the problem.
BullittJunior Member#19 Well, that is strange. Is it running again?
kkcompJunior Member#20 Fixed after the second starter. The first one was bad out of the box. Still have the same codes active so running at reduced power. Going to attempt a parked clean when I get time.
