Travel is via the big tandem variable displacement pump assembly (closest to flywheel). You resealed the gear pump? Did you replace the inner body number "3" shaped seals on the outer of each wear insert? I ran engine at max rpm and pump only developed 1100 psi. I dont know what other tests i could do. My determination is that i have a wrn out gear pump. Thoughts? Click to expand... My experience is that 3000 hours out of a gear pump is a fair amount, some have gotten more like 6000 hours but a lot depends on oil type, filter changes, oil changes and how often spools are over relief. Have seen piston pumps that were well serviced with 25000 hours, it depends on a lot of things. Not sure if I understood you propeerly, think you meant that you put a Tee at the pump discharge with the pump discharge going straight over to the control valve, and the one branch of the Tee with the gauge on it. The line to the control valve can never be plugged or the pump will grenade. I know a guy that did it twice until he found out you cannot do that. If no relief is stuck and suction filter is good as you have said it is pointing strongly to the pump, whether worn out or something assembled wrong. Simon C

Mystery solved. It was a worn out gear pump. Back to full strength on lift arms and bucket curl after chasing this problem for more than a year. I just was throwing the wrong parts at it.

Fact it would not create enough pressure pointed to internal by pass. Simon C
