Old DougSenior Member#1 CamshawnJunior Member#2 I have a couple of Knipex brand ( 6“ and 10”) and they have a place in my toolbox. My wife likes the small ones for craft stuff because the jaw has no serrations and move parallel. they are a one size wrench that I can grab for a quick repair away from the shop
CoaldustSuper User#3 Knipex are amazing.
Old DougSenior Member#4 So many different tools out anymore what is handy and what will not get used much ? I can remember exactly the channel's name Tool Box Tours ? Its something how much guys have spent on specialty tools. Everyone has at least 2 of everything.
CoaldustSuper User#5 Many gimmicks in the hand tool marketplace. Admittedly, the pliers wrenches are innovative.
donkey doctorJunior Member#6 Had to look them up to see what they were. Never heard them called that. We always called them channel locks. plumbers grips or water pump plyers. I learn something new everyday. Never too old I guess. d.d.
CoaldustSuper User#7 They have an extra lever that compounds the torque you apply and they seriously lock onto whatever you are turning. And, they don’t scratch up everything with the jaws. At first glance, they appear like any other channel lock. I drank the Knipex koolaid. So, there’s that. They grow legs and walk away more frequently than any other tool. More so, than 9/16” combo wrenches and 10mm sockets.
mksJunior Member#8 “They grow legs and walk away” That gets rather frustrating. Good multi purpose tools.
CoaldustSuper User#9 I normally keep a 6” knipex plier wrench in the side pocket of my jeans and a spare in my go box. I’m missing both of them. At $56 bucks a pop,….. I haven’t replaced them. Probably having a party with the Benchmade mini grip and Spiderco para IiI that I lost this year, too. This is why we can’t have nice things. There is a 7” knipex cobra filling that space, meantime. Not as handy as the plier wrench.
CamshawnJunior Member#10 I keep 4 wrenches on magnetic hooks on the outside of my tool box that are my go to‘s. 2 of each, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, and 3/4. The knipex are in the top drawer. I will try keeping the 6” plier wrench in my pocket for a few days but I tend to only want a pocket knife these days. Cam
Old DougSenior Member#11 My uncle that was born in the thirties carried a couple wrenches i think 3/8 =7/16 , 1/2=9/16 and a pair of pliers with him . I wonder what he would carry today metric ?
Old DougSenior Member#12 I bought the Proto 10 inch plier wrench for half price at the surplus place here . Time will tell how use full they are.

Old DougSenior Member#14 We replaced all the air lines in one of the shops at work and I used them on that job other wise I haven't used them much. I really cant say much about them yet. I like to tell the truth and so far I am glade I got them for half price because they are useful but I don't think they are my new go to tool.
John ShippJunior Member#15 Because of this thread I looked up the 6" knipex ones and with up to 27mm gap I'm wondering if they would be handy all-in-one for keeping in a cab for getting out of trouble
hvy 1tonJunior Member#16 If my choices are an adjustable wrench or pilers wrench, I'm grabbing the pilers wrench 95 times out of 100. I have 150, 180, and 250 sizes. I use the 180/7.25" size the most. The 150 is nice for tight spaces. I'd suggest pliers wrench and cobra pliers in whatever size you choose. Knipex's twin grip pliers are awesome as well. I wish they made a 125/150 size.

I need to do some tests to see but right now I cant see how they could replace a crescent wrench in this kind of a deal?
hvy 1tonJunior Member#18 Most of us missed the fact your were talking about a pair of Proto pliers and not Knipex pliers wrench.
