Hi all- was wondering if anyone has done a track adjuster reseal on one of these older machines?

There are probably 20 different flavours of 963. How about posting a Serial Number to give everyone an idea what you are dealing with.?

Could have sworn I did... 18Z01903.

This is pretty old history But I seem to remember you can get the piston out without taking frame off you will have to split the track. I always pulled the three pins on the idler yoke. I had a tool made to pull them as you can't drive pin in because idler is in the way remove the yoke pull the shaft out of trunnion inside the big cover you have to unbolt the flange from idler cylinder push the cylinder back into pilot to get piston to move toward the front of tractor so you can get it out. Two important things inside the big cover where the track adjuster is their are two big pins make sure they are not broken because they are what is containing recoil spring pressure probably should check before starting and I'm thinking if the cylinder is bad you can't get it out unless you remove frame and trunnion

It is an early model for sure. After you remove yoke do you mean pull the recoil rod out of support assembly? The support assembly is what's attached to the equalizer bar? Are you talking about the 2 bolts that hold the support assembly in the track frame that the recoil rod goes through?

I cannot find any Disassembly & Assembly instructions. I don't know if this will help at all the front idler and tensioner mechanism is listed in two parts. This is Part 1.

    And here is Part 2.

After you pull the three pins and remove yoke pull rod out of support inside where the rod butts against track adjuster remove 1/2 inch bolts number 11 in parts The thing to check is the two pins they are number three on first part make sure they are not broken as they are holding the spring and yes I've seen them broken. You should be able to sneak the piston out without removing the support

No it is what holds the big spring in. If reason you think it needs resealed is it is all the ways out check the support for idler on bottom front of roller frame if it is set back from end of frame you need to move it out to the end by removing bolts in support and move it too end back off track adjustment first

Pumped full of grease and track still stays loose.

When track gets well worn you have to move idler ahead on roller frame

How much does anyone think this would cost for mechanic to come out and do this job? If they would even do it being an older machine and it's sitting on trail where part of the road has washed out from the rain. What are some thoughts please?

The track is already off and it's disassembled so it couldn't really be moved. It is pretty much flat and blocked up, it's just down a road that has been washing out. I attached some screenshots, you can kind of see the road behind the tractor and where it's washing out. The other pic is the upper road down from house. That's pretty .much how it sits today. Hopefully kind of gives you an idea.

Always the way. Found the D&A procedure for the front idler and track tensioner system while I was looking for something else.
