I am having an issue with my Tl 230. When I bought this unit it would not start, I chased it down to the shut down solenoid not working. i replaced the solenoid and was getting air in the fuel. gauge was showing 1/4 tank. I have had issues with other Takeuchi's having this issue so I added 10 gallons of fuel and solved this problem. Unit now starts and runs great up to between 1/2 and 3/4 throttle, when you reach this point the machine dies as if you turned the key off. no sputter or miss. if you move the throttle back to idle the engine restarts and runs fine. i have checked the shutdown relay (good) the emergency relay (good) wire harness for rubs or stretching with throttle and it is not. I have cleaned the battery ground cable at battery and on the frame. I am at a loss I have never seen this issue before and have talked to a Takeuchi trained mechanic that has never seen it either. any suggestions? at this point im game for anything.

Does this have a Yanmar 4TNV98-ZNTBL? Do you have to move the throttle back to idle for the machine to start? Will it at least try to start at full throttle? Almost every fuel-related issue I have had with these engines comes down to the Eco Governor fuel rack actuator system. The electric lift pump is important on these systems, but mostly for priming issues, because the trichoidal low side fuel pump section of the fuel injection pump is poor at priming, but I have seen where there is a low side restriction causing the air to get pulled out of the fuel, mostly this will cause other issues though. The rack actuator is effectively what controls the fuel, including shutting it off. If the engine is just shutting off, especially at a repeatable RPM, this points to the actuator losing its position or a loss in the engine's speed signal. What I would normally do is use SA-D (Yanmar diagnostic software) to check for rack actuator codes, and do a hysteresis test. Without access to the software, I would certainly backprobe the + voltage terminal of the rack actuator (the terminal that is enabled by the rack relay) and be certain it is not dropping out when the engine is shutting down.

Debris floating in the water separator inlet elbow.

it is the V3307 kubota yes you have to move the throttle back to idle. it has a new lift pump, shutdown solenoid, fuel stop relay and im waiting on the safety relay. I have eliminated a fuel issue because it doesnt sputter or miss and there is no air in the filter outlet. it seems to be in the safety side of the electrical system i just cant find a wiring diagram of just this part. i pulled the cover of the stop relay and closed it by hand and it cranks and throttles all the way up and stays running till i release the relay

That makes more sense then; the Series 2 had the Kubota. It looks like holding the stop relay keeps the PULL terminal energized, but I think you are want to chase the HOLD terminal instead. If it is dropping voltage when you idle up, it's just a matter of finding out what on the circuit is causing the break. Maybe the switch itself, from vibration, could measure the voltage across it when the engine stalls.

what should the voltage be on the hold side of the shut down solenoid

I had a TL230 Series 2 and sold it. I had bought the service manual for the machine. The service manual (printed) came with a CD. I noticed long after the machine was gone that I still have the CD, I gave the manual to the buyer with the machine. I just looked and it has basically the whole service manual on there. Want it? It says it covers serial numbers 223100001 on.

I would love to have it.
