So I just bought a cat 289d (in op)at auction and it showed up with these problems, dpf faults, lift arm linkage voltage high, and no movement from lift arm. My concern/ question is what could cause the lift arm to not move? From my looking around the lift arm linkage shouldn’t stop it from moving at all right? I do have a hydraulic light on and I flicked the switch with nothing but the skid steer drives and pump sounds just fine.now I did find a very helpful cat diag procedure for that fault code. Any suggestions or comments?
Cat 289d no response from the lift controls

Kalslade3New Member#1 Mr. WrenchSenior Member#2 Please post the serial number of the machine, and a list of the active fault codes if your display is the one that you can read fault codes from. The arms not lifting is most likely a electrical problem. Did you check the hydraulic lockout switch? Is that the switch you where referring to is the first post?
Kalslade3New Member#3 TAW13460 I have a 350-3 code and a 523602-0 after treatment code, the light I was referring to is the hydraulic lockout switch light, it stays on even after you move the lock out switch, now I did notice that online says there should be a center position on that switch as if it’s a 3 position switch but mine I can only get it to use two positions. How would I go about checking that switch? Do you have a wiring diagram?
Mr. WrenchSenior Member#4 Here is the diagnostic procedure for the 350-3 code:
Kalslade3New Member#5 Will this code prevent the lift arm from moving at all? From what I was reading it doesn’t seem that would be the case?
Mr. WrenchSenior Member#6 I don't have a wiring diagram for that serial number. Nige will probably have one. I don't think that code should keep the arms from raising. It would just affect the self leveling function. Likely caused by a damaged loader arm wiring harness. Have you checked all the fuses and relays? Are those the only active codes while the loader is running? The 523602-0 is for Aftertreatment Regeneration Frequency High. It may be getting to where the DPF needs cleaned, though that is not the only thing that could cause that problem. How many hours are on the machine? Do you have access to diagnostic software to read the soot load on the DPF?
NigeLegend#7 350-3 will not keep the lift function from working. Does the bucket tilt function work OK even though the lift is not working.? It sounds as though a good first step would be to get ET hooked up to the machine and download a full Product Status Report. That would give all the information on the status of the aftertreatment system as well as a lot of other useful information. Mr. Wrench said: I don't have a wiring diagram for that serial number. Kalslade3New Member#8 With the lift arm the complete left joystick doesn’t respond to any movement I try and input, the tilt is all the way out facing down toward the ground.i have not checked any fuses or relays yet because i didn’t know which ones to go after that may control it. That’s why i was hoping for a wiring schematics to lead me into the right place to check all that out As for the after treatment I plan on just removing it completely so not concerned about that to much Now I do not currently have anything for diagnostic software all my other machine are from 1990s or earlier but I don’t no have an issues spending a couple bucks to get one, what would be a suggested scanner or equipment for that.

Click to expand... So no left joystick functions at all. That helps. Use the schematic to check that the joystick base (6 pin connector) has the requisite power and ground. Note that the ground should be continuous back to the Machine ECM not to the chassis (wire A285-BK).
Kalslade3New Member#10 Okay I will check that tonight thanks. And I meant right joystick if sitting in the cab, now looking at that photo is this circuit on a fuse or relay?

I had left in my mind. My apologies. Wire 126-PK is switched ignition power. It is a fused supply from 10A fuse #24 specifically for the RH joystick base. The LH joystick base power comes from fuse #20. Do you have a multimeter capable of measuring % duty cycle.? If so you could measure the DC between each of the output signal wires and A285. You should have approx 50% DC in the centre, around 10% with the joystick moved fully one way, and around 90% with it moved fully the other way. This applies to both X and Y-axis.

Anecdotal experience with this model of engine on this forum suggests that might be a bad move in the long term. I guess it all depends on how long you plan keeping the machine.
