I trust that someone on this forum may have some experience I can tap into. My search on Deere Parts catalogue found Part # RE507920 for the std Piston liner kit, however my Deere dealer and alternative KMP supplier have come up with a RE505111 that is indicated as sub'd. All critical dimensions are correct with the exception of the Piston Pin boss casting, which appears to be for the newer Tapperd small end rod and not my original straight-pin-rod. The deere parts rep suggested that this tappered pin boss piston is now the only option available. My querie is, can I use the tappered pin boss piston with my original straight-pin-rod. I have attached images to show difference between original and new piston. Thanks in Anticipation Joe

JoesJD315SE4x4Junior Member#3 Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply. There is a P/# etched into the new piston crown, see image. The old piston has a casting number inside piston, see 2nd image
Diesel DaveSenior Member#4 The etched # RE59277 in the ‘new” piston is an aftermarket # for an engine overhaul kit. The # is not used in the Deere system. Per the Deere online parts , RE505111 piston liner kit subs to RE507920 piston liner kit ,see screenshot below. RE507920 is readily available in North America, not sure why it would not be available in your part of the world. Did you price out a Deere engine overhaul kit # RE527299 ?

Take notice how much of the wrist pin would be unsupported.
JoesJD315SE4x4Junior Member#6 Hi Dave, You are correct, the new etched # RE59277 piston is aftermarket, and you have confirmed my concerns about using the tappered boss piston. My frustration is that the Deere dealer her in Zimbabwe cannot offer me the RE507920 piston liner kit. I will have to pkeep searching for the correct piston/liner kit.
Joe HJunior Member#7 https://www.ebay.com/itm/403224545069 Does he ship to Zimbabwe ? Unknown but cheaper than any dealers in the US. Or China kit https://www.alibaba.com/search/page...99+For+John+Deere&pro=true&from=pcHomeContent
JoesJD315SE4x4Junior Member#8 Hi Again Dave, So I have aproached my local Deere dealer regarding the supply of kit RE507920 and they keep reverting back to the subed # RE 505111, which is the tappered piston boss. They suggest that Deere no longer supplies the older shape piston RE515372 in the kit and that I should replace my original rods with the later tappered small end type, which I am not happy to do. I have asked them to request a solution from the Deere technical department, and this channell they say is not functioning. I cant believe this lack of support from the Deere organisation. Can you suggest a platform by which I can raise this matter with Deere.

I’m sorry I don’t have any suggestions on the best way to contact Deere directly. . FYI, The liner kit RE507920 (with piston marked RE515372) is used with current production products. See the screenshot below from the Deere 310 P parts catalog as an example.
mg2361Senior Member#10 Both the piston liner kit RE507920 and the overhaul kit RE527299 are still current numbers and are currently on stockorder backorder. They are not discontinued.
JoesJD315SE4x4Junior Member#11 Thanks Dave and mg2361, I appreciate your feedback. You both confirmed my findings on the Deere parts platform, however my local dealer is not being very helpful.

The tapered pin boss is machined specifically for the tapered rod's pin retention. With a straight rod, that pin has nothing to lock into, it'll walk and destroy the cylinder. You need the correct straight-rod piston. Try aftermarket suppliers like Reliance or KMP, or hunt down NOS. Don't mix the two.
