I have a Deutz TD2.9L4 from a CAT TH255 telehandler apart and need critical torque values and specs. I bought the 358 page Deutz Engine Workshop Manual "0312 3982 en" and the 174 page CAT/JLG 3120064 Service Manual, however, they do not contain these values. Any help or direction would be much appreciated.
Deutz TD2.9L-4 engine specs help

Gabe_MulkaNew Member#1 NigeLegend#2 Do you have the Cat Serial Number of the TH255.? That may be one way to track down the specs. I don't know if it still works but there is a support web site for Cat/JLG TH machines - https://ole-se.jlg.com/CAGUI/default.aspx
Gabe_MulkaNew Member#3 I have read through those manuals. Two of which are the same ones I purchased (didn't know they were free). The internal engine specs are not listed. The only tag the machine owner found on the machine says: Part No: 1001138888 Rev: B Date of Prod: 08/06/2013 and a warning about voiding warranty if tag is removed. I don't know if that helps, but I hope so.
NigeLegend#4 Give me a Cat Serial Number from the machine and I'll see what I can look up using other sources. Can you list exactly what "critical torque specs" you are looking for.
Gabe_MulkaNew Member#5 I'll try to get the owner to look harder. The machine is quite a distance from here. Connecting rod, main bearing cap, cylinder head bolt torques. Bolt re-use or replacement requirements. Those are the minimum I need. Tried to purchase a whole work manual for assembly but can get by without. Thank you for your help.
NigeLegend#6 Well I failed in the "other sources" but came up with this one. It sppears to be what you are looking for (I would strongly suggest you confirm that with the seller) but unfortunately it is not free. Gabe_MulkaNew Member#7 Already bought that one. No internal values at all. Thank You for looking.
NigeLegend#8 Deutz seem to keep all their technical information a closely-guarded secret. It needs one of the forum Deitz specialists to see this and comment because I have exhausted all the avenues I know.
Gabe_MulkaNew Member#9 Thank you very much for all you've done. Suppose I'll cross my fingers and hope someone with that information sees this?
MarshallPowerGenSenior Member#10 Any idea what year you're dealing with? Pretty sure the early engines were TD2009L4 (which I have the torque specs for) and the later (post 2018?) were TD2.9L4. I'm pretty sure the base engine was the same with changes to emissions and fuel parts, but not certain.
NigeLegend#11 MarshallPowerGen said: Any idea what year you're dealing with? Click to expand... 2013 if the plate in the photo above is to be believed.
Gabe_MulkaNew Member#12 Here is the tag photo I have. I have a bunch of new parts from MEMO here that I ordered off this model number, all seem to be identical to the old ones (pistons, rings, crank bearings, connecting rod).
Gabe_MulkaNew Member#13 I re-joined AERA for the specs, didn't want to fork out $1000 for it, but it may come in handy. I haven't been a member in like 14 years. Thanks for your time. BTW, the TD2009L4 engine design is very much different than the TD2.9L4
MarshallPowerGenSenior Member#14 Gabe_Mulka said: BTW, the TD2009L4 engine design is very much different than the TD2.9L4 Click to expand... Good to know, my mistake. I mostly dealt with the older air/oil cooled and mostly just changed leaking water pumps on the newer liquid cooled Deutz stuff.
Gabe_MulkaNew Member#15 I miss the old air-cooled ones!
jbdetoyNew Member#16 Building one of these right now I bought that manual as well can you help me out with the specs
Benjagil90New Member#17 Hi all, Jumping in on this thread because I'm in the exact same situation — currently rebuilding a Deutz D2.9 L4 (non-turbo) and need the cylinder head bolt torque specs. Engine ID plate info:
- Model: D 2.9 L4
- Serial No.: 11539247
- Spec: 25010551
- Code: C4D 36.4 / KW 36.4 / HP 49 / RPM 2600 I already bought new OEM gaskets (Deutz 0413-3157 head gasket, cross-referenced to Elring 736.712, and 0413-1818 manifold gasket), but the box did not include any tightening instructions. Specifically looking for:
- Torque value(s) in Nm per stage
- Tightening angle(s) in degrees (if torque + angle method)
- Tightening sequence
- Whether bolts should be lubricated and if they're single-use If anyone here (or @jbdetoy , since you mentioned building one too) has these specs or access to the AERA data, it would help both of us out a lot. Thanks in advance!
