I guess its the week of issues lol. Yesterday I was using the IT and it randomly stopped moving forward. I switched throughout the gears and it still will not move forward. I turned off the machine and turned it back on. The tractor moved forward again but then a couple minutes later repeated the same issue. Turning it off and on seems to reset the issue for a bit. Does anyone have ideas what I should look at?
IT24F RANDOM MOVEMENT ISSUES

dzlnutJunior Member#3 Does anyone have suggestions on what i should be looking at?
NigeLegend#4 Sounds electrical/electronic. Try posting a machine Serial Number. I can then look at what diagnostics are available.
NigeLegend#5 OK, got the Serial Number. By now you should have an electrical schematic. Locate the Harness Code connector and the Diagnostic Indicator around the RH platform behind the ladder. Refer to "Location #4" on Page 1 of the electrical schematic. Unplug the Harness Code connector. Turn the Key ON. The Diagnostic Indicator should start to flash. For more details refer to the attachment. Come back with any questions. To scroll or erase you will need something like a bent paperclip.
NigeLegend#6 This illustration may also be useful. You will find the Pin Numbers shown on it moulded into the back side of the Harness Code connector.
dzlnutJunior Member#7 I had a mechanic diagnose it and he said there's a solenoid that went bad. I am waiting to hear back which one. But from looking at the electrical schematic and seeing the area he found it in. Would 3E-6269 be causing this issue?

Click to expand... 3E-6269 is the correct Part Number for the solenoid valve assembly that controls the transmission clutches. There are 6 of them altogether, one for each clutch in the transmission. Based on the symptoms in your OP I would suggest more diagnostics might be in order. The reason is that there is not a single solenoid valve that affects all FWD speeds. The solenoid functions are as follows: - #1 - FWD High #2 - REV #3 - FWD Low #4 - 1st (low) Speed #5 - 2nd (Intermediate) Speed #6 - 3rd (High) Speed The table below shows which solenoids are energized for which transmission speed. You can use that information to determine which of the FWD solenoids (#1 or #3) is the one that is playing up. The likely one is #3 as it affects FWD speeds 1 thru 3 but not 4. It might be useful to swap the solenoids between 1 and 3 and test the machine to see if the problem moves.
dzlnutJunior Member#9 thank you for the information, I did not realize there are 6 of those solenoids. I have not hear back from the Mechanic yet which its tough for me because he knows exactly which part it is. I know that he had the access panel on the right side of the tractor open. (the area under the switch panel) I forgot to mention previously that he said this sensor or solenoid has a magnet. What part would that be?
NigeLegend#10 dzlnut said: I forgot to mention previously that he said this sensor or solenoid has a magnet. What part would that be? Click to expand... Kinda half right. Actually it is an electromagnet. When the coil #1 is energized it moves a spool inside the valve cartridge that directs pressurized oil to a clutch and also allows the oil from the clutch to dump when the coil is de-energized. There are two common failure possibilities in one of these solenoid valves. First the coil could be failing so that from time to time when voltage is supplied it is insufficient to move the internal parts of the valve cartridge. Second is the possibility that the internal parts of the valve cartridge are occasionally sticking as a result of contamination or damage. This means that when power is applied to the coil the valve guts don't move. Either way the result is the same. The transmission speed(s) that depend on that particular solenoid valve will not work. As I said yesterday further diagnosis is required to determine exactly which solenoid valve is giving trouble. I still suspect it is #3 (FWD Low), however that is not confirmed as yet. You still need to establish if 4th speed FWD is present when you lose the other FWD speeds 1 thru 3. That would confirm that the FWD Low solenoid valve is indeed the culprit. If you confirm the above then what you could try is the following: -
- Unplug the electrical connectors from the solenoid valves for the FWD Low Clutch and the REV clutch. See the illustration above.
- Remove the Nut #1 from each Coil As and carefully slide the coil off the corresponding valve cartridge.
- Swap the location of the coils (FWD Low to REV and vice versa). Reinstall each coil and the nut on to the valve cartridge.
- Connect the electrical wiring back to both coils making sure that the connections are not crossed. Test run the machine and try all transmission speeds. If the fault has moved from FWD Low (1st thru 3rd speeds FWD) to REV speeds then the coil is bad. If the fault stays with 1st thru 3rd speeds FWD then the valve cartridge is bad.
dzlnutJunior Member#11 thank you @Nige for all of the information. I am learning a lot about the intricacies of this machine. The mechanic said when the transmission kicked out of gear it was the code for solenoid #4
NigeLegend#12 dzlnut said: The mechanic said when the transmission kicked out of gear it was the code for solenoid #4 Click to expand... That’s strange, because #4 is the one for 1st (Low) speed, not FWD direction. Can you confirm that when the machine acts up is it just losing 1st speed in both direction or is us losing more than one FWD speed.?
dzlnutJunior Member#13 thats what I was thinking as well. I am going to test it again today. I am pretty sure last time I tried it when FWD stopped working I put it into reverse and that worked
NigeLegend#14 dzlnut said: I am pretty sure last time I tried it when FWD stopped working I put it into reverse and that worked Click to expand... When you test it make sure you test each FWD speed from 1st through to 4th. If the problem is what I think it is then 4th speed FWD should still function despite the fact that the other three FWD speeds will be AWOL.
dzlnutJunior Member#15 I tested each forward speed and each reverse speed none of them work
pittsburgh cat manSuper User#16 I think I would be looking at the shifter in the cab
dzlnutJunior Member#17 If it was the shifter in the cab, would the transmission work again when I turn off the tractor and turn it back on?
pittsburgh cat manSuper User#18 It is possible I had a steering pedal sensor on a 953c that would reset it's self when you shut tractor off It made me crazy when it would work after shutting it down I was thinking it was heat but it wasn't and it didn't throw any codes. Also had a small dozer that would try to throw you thru the window Turned out to be selector switch I could actually see that one on et it was engaging 3 clutches at one time
NigeLegend#19 dzlnut said: I tested each forward speed and each reverse speed none of them work Click to expand... I just read it again and your first post indicated that the problem was with forward speeds, reverse was never mentioned. Is there a possibility that the mechanic who looked at the machine has left something disconnected.? Right now there are multiple possibilities, it’s like asking how long is a piece of string.
dzlnutJunior Member#20 That's good to know about the shift selector as well. I see what you are saying I was a little vague in my first post. It is possible that the mechanic left something disconnected. He had done a lot of re-wiring over the winter when the transmission would not engage at all. A rodent had chewed through a bunch of wiring. He had doubled check that everything was connected but did not notice any wiring issues
