6Y8243 gearbox , bad pressure at first and alot of slipping when stand still in uphills , almost impossible to start in a up hill . Both back and forward . Metal in the oil, got a little better when the oil was changed but 2 hours drivning after that it was all dead , no forward or back what so ever . It wont move . And now its pretty much metal in the oil . Any ideas

Nothing that doesn’t involve $10000+ sorry.

It's transmission out time (actually it's past transmission out time by now) and the longer you try to operate it in its current condition the bigger the repair bill will be when you do finally tear it apart.

Its a loader that a friend of mine got and iam thinking of buy it sounds like the trans is out of order for real then . it maybe started only with bad pressure and then killed the clutch , and then killed the gears . To bad its seem hard to find any second hand gearbox in Sweden

Can it be metal in the oil from the plates between the clutchdisks ? If its ”only” a clutch job it should not be totaly scrap

So long as the case has not exploded the transmission won't be scrap. Even if it's more than clutch plates/friction discs (plus all the gaskets, seals, bearings, etc, that go with along with them) it will still be fixable. Regarding the "overhaul parts list" a lot will depend on how many operating hours the transmission has on it. The only variable is the final cost to repair it. If you are thinking of buying the machine make an offer based on what you think the machine is worth minus the price of a Reman transmission from the local Cat dealer.. If no Reman is available use 60% of the price of a new transmission. That will cover the overhaul plus a replacement transmission pump and a powertrain oil cooler (you will need both). The best suggestion I can make is to drain the oil then pull out the magnetic suction strainer, #13 & 14 in the illustration below, from the transmission, disassemble it, separate the magnetic and non-magnetic materials. and take photos of what you find.

Do you have alot of detail pictures of the transmission i would be very happy to see

Click to expand... I spoke to cat , there is nothing new or overhauled box available and no price . But he looked at oilpump , cooler , clutches , bearings , sealings etc . He also Said This is a real rare machine in Sweden this IT28 F model , G is allot more common . And those parts he looked at are atleast 10.000-15.000 euro , thats more than the machine is worth here . So its kinda difficult

With a non-operational transmission the loader is currently worth its weight as scrap MINUS the costs required to cut it up into pieces acceptable to the scrap merchant and transport to said scrap merchant. You have to ask yourself what the machine would be worth to you in operating condition and how long would be the payback period for the investment on repairing it to working order. Those are calculations only you can do. Granstr0m said: He also Said This is a real rare machine in Sweden this IT28 F model , G is allot more common . Click to expand... I looked at that last night. Unfortunately the G transmission is not interchangeable with the F, even if you could find one.

And its only gonna be a machine to use at home so … i better think twice on this one … do you think the F model is better or worse than G ?

  17. NigeLegend#17

Granstr0m said: do you think the F model is better or worse than G ? Click to expand... Not really. For a home machine the F might be easier to work on and maintain as a result of the less complex electrical/electronic systems compared to the G models. Granstr0m said: Its a loader that a friend of mine got and iam thinking of buy it Click to expand... It may be a test of your friendship how he takes the comment that basically it's only worth scrap price. I would still storngly suggest pulling out the magnetic screen an take a look what's in it. It could be another factor in convincing the current owner that effectively the machine is worth next to nothing.

Okey , that sounds good yes , i was thinking of that , I must check in the screen, how many liters oil is it in the trans ?

  19. NigeLegend#19

Granstr0m said: how many liters oil is it in the trans ? Click to expand... 30 litres according to the manual but you may get less than that. If it was recently changed there is no reason to dump it. Simply drain it into a clean container and it can be put back into the transmission when you are done with the screen inspection.
