DOes anyone know where to get a wiring diagram for a LRG 425 ford engine year is 2002 ECM number is 1u1l-12a650-ca. I bought this wood chipper with this engine and the gauge panel has been cut so I have no idea how to wire up the ignition. Thanks

Try Powertech engines in California, they have the stuff on Ford engines.

Thanks they had the diagram and its up and running. Only problem now is it shuts down after about 20 seconds. I even tried hot wiring the electric fuel pump and it stll shuts down. Any ideas I thought maybe the oil pressure switch but that did not change it either. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Is the ignition module the only electronic doodad on this engine? Post a picture if it is. That module or the coil is my thought but I'd like to see what it is, maybe I can give some pointers from experience.

I was thinking it is the computer shutting it down for some reason because it shuts off in 20 seconds every time.

I can't find any info on the EFI controller but the usual red with green tracer wire powers most things, including the ignition coil which alternately grounds each pack to make 2 plugs fire so make sure the coil is not the item losing power when it dies. My manual says EFI is covered in another publication which I don't have since I use propane fueled ones.

Try Graham Power Equipment 614-801-0049 Or Engine Distributors 856-228-7298

The efi controlled units are pretty simple to diagnose, given that it shuts down after 20 seconds I would say that it is picking up a high engine temp, try unplugging both coolant temp sensors and see if it stays running, if it does then one of the 2 has failed, the smaller one usually tells the ecm how hot it is and if it thinks it is over temp it will kill the engine. Now for simple diagnosis, check for spark once it has shut down and then check for fuel delivery (wet plug) they were well known for ecm failures if its the original ecm. water got into them and corroded the boards. I do have the software to plug into them with but you would have to buy the connector from genie and they only sell it as a kit for software and connector. I can send you the pdf manual that has the pinout for the ecm if you need it.

I just bought same model WC17 chipper with the Ford LRG 425 engine and now have the same problem as the original poster. Only my engine will not start unless I jump the starter solenoid and then it only runs for second or two and then shuts down. Only thing I can find wrong is there is no wire attached to the oil sender and no wire on the downstream side of the oil gauge. Without a wiring diagram with the pinout for the ecm I am really dead in the water. Engine Distributors can fix me up for around $3500 for a new EPM controller kit. If any member has a wiring diagram for this chipper or idea of where to go next, I would appreciate the help.

It sounds like you are missing power to the start relay, I would be checking the power input and output. I am familiar with them in the boom lifts however in your case I am not sure how it would interface with the computer I can email you the manual for it if you want just msg me your email address. A quick search shows that there should be three relays mounted to the intake side of the engine cowling. starter, fuel pump and shut down relays I do believe.

I'm seeing the same price range for the controller kit in trying to get my chipper running again. Would like to avoid that! Anyone on this thread who has the LRG 425 manual with the ECM wiring diagram, I'd also greatly appreciate your help. I'll message you my email address thru the conversation link. Thanks! RGelzer

we are having similar issues and can't get a wiring diagram. Could that be sent to me as well please

Your first task with this problem is to make sure your machine has MIL (warning light) and that it is working. My chipper did not come from the factory so I was working in the dark until I wired one into the system. Then you can use the EFI diagnostic manual to isolate the problem by reading the blinking of the MIL. There are a couple of misprints in the manual that you may have to work around but I can't remember what they were at this time. If your engine will start at all it will set a code and activate the MIL. You can clear the fault codes by disconnecting the battery. The posts that I see that got you to this post, most are well intentioned guesses. I should know because I guessed them also and all were dead ends until I got the fault codes and followed the diagnostic procedures in the diagnostic manual. My ECM was killing the engine from a faulty pin connection that caused the ECM to see an overspeeding engine which immediately shuts the engine down. As for poster Matty at the top of this page, you are asking for a diagram for your ECM number lU1L-12A650-CA. If that is the correct number of the module on your chipper, you are dealing with a PCM and not an older ECM that this thread is mostly dealing with. If I am correct, you probably need the wiring diagrams for both systems. I recently bought the same PCM and the other components needed to upgrade my chipper to the newer system, but it took me a year to get the components of of eBay at a price I could afford. The PCM lU1L-12A650-CA that Matty posted as being on his chipper, is what is required to update my chipper and has to be programmed for each application by the Ford Power Products people. I bought mine for $120 in new condition on eBay . You have to wait and watch eBay to find the upgrade parts but since the old ECM are not available at all, you may have to go that route if your diagnostic efforts end up at a dead ECM. I think that may be what happened to Matty's chipper and someone got as far as finding a PCM and gave up on the adaptor cables and throttle body that also are required. I will upload the manuals I have, as well as what is needed to upgrade. Here is the wiring diagram for the PCM- IU LL-12A650-CA and the additional upgrade info that you would need if you have to upgrade. I was able to get my chipper running with the old ECM but not able to make it pass the emissions test to get it registered in CA so I had to upgrade my engine control system and add a catalytic converter. There is a outfit in LA that can tell if your module is program for your chipper and will program the module for your application for $75 if they have the program. I was told that any of the 12A650 PCMs can be programmed for my WC17 chipper but I was not sure about risking it so passed on a couple of modules on eBay before I found the exact numbered module. The adaptor harness and throttlebody took a while to show up on eBay but I finally found them both for under $300. Your PCM alone is well over $1000 at Pitt Engines back east so you should be well on your way. I am wondering how the 1U1L-12A650-CA module is wired into your chipper unless the wiring harness has been changed or upgraded with the newer connectors. Maybe you have the adaptor harness on your machine as well. There are two versions, and older, more complicated one and a newer simpler version that is harder to buy cheaply. I have the older one and had to drill a few new holes to mount the PCM. As a final thought, take a look at your throttlebody and see if it may be the newer Bosch unit that is in the upgrade kit. It's a little above my paygrade to wonder about this but I don't see how the PCM could even operate the old throttle body without some wiring alterations. Anyway here is the info if you need it

Does anyone have access to the schematic of the internals of the ECM? It is now an obsolete part. I'm trying to have it rebuilt and company that is doing the work is having trouble finding a schematic to get the needed parts.

Ford Power Products had many branches that shut down during the CV pandemic. inlcuding all three of the ones in my state of California. The one in Long Beach had a program to program the newer ECM module that I bought to upgrade my chipper but closed down before I could get it shiipped down to them and I am now back to square one with my old system and the 20 second running time. There is still a branch in Nevada but after several phone calls to them they seemed to be uncertain if they could program my module to operate my WC17. I will post the info for them below: The tech at the Long Beach facility that had the program for the chipper module was named Felix and I have tried looking in other company employee registries to find him. Sadly these old guys that actually knew what they were doing are going away. Email: [email protected] Tel: (801) 415-5000 Sparks, NV 8 Glendale Avenue Sparks, NV 89431
