I want to buy a crane like this and have many real uses, but I don't know much, have no money, and no time. Good thing I'm not bidding. Strangely this item got bid up from 12.50 to $1000 yesterday, it's not my item but I do have a minivan on purple wave if anyone is interested!

Lots of monkey motion complexity there. That bank of control reels where I am used to seeing one, that is scary.

You would be better off paying me $20,000- and I'll come kick you in the nuts twice, really hard. That would be cheaper and less painful than buying that crane.

  5. cfherrmanSenior Member#5

    It's like it's broken for a reason

Seems like you could get more than the current bid of $1050 for the scrap steel ?

  7. cfherrmanSenior Member#7

How you going to move it unless the yard let's ya cut it up there.

  8. cfherrmanSenior Member#8

    My minivan sold for $1350

I like all those pictures of the engine compartment. So it would sink in. Picture after picture. That engine was going to be a mother to work on.

So here's the deal for you dreamers. See that electrical control box in the upper- there's problems in there, and all that **** is obsolete. There's a similar set up that controls the hydraulic suspension downstairs. You could work around all that stuff, by essentially pirate wiring it all to control the thing manually, but it will never pass a 3rd party inspection. No inspection, no insurance. No insurance, no working for anyone else. No insurance- No driving it on the road. Its got all the reels on the side of the boom for the lmi, there's individual cylinders for separate boom sections, and notice the one is stuck out. No chart / lmi if you can't differentiate the individual sections at length. There's problems there. And they mention it won't boom down all the way either. More issues. So this thing is going to end up costing $20-30,000 to move, if you can get it broken down, and essentially end up being a yard crane. You would be so much better off buying a 50 ton grove RT from 1981, and it would lift 90 percent of what any of you guys would need to lift in a yard setting. It would be 1000 times easier to get hauled (any lowboy), and a million times easier to work on. Old grove would be stone simple and there's no complicated parts to get. The auction crane is all demag. Who got bought out by terex (who was horrible to get parts out of), and now that's gone and owned by tadano. Parts weren't available for this thing 20 years ago. And there's no one left who knows exactly how its all supposed to run. Its all 24 volt and probably some kind of 440 milliamp control set up. You would end up bypassing everything and running it all by toggle switches. Seriously, a Grove from the stone ages would be so much easier to live with. And cost less to purchase. Or- I'm secretly trying to hold the price down so I can steal it away.......

Oh- and there's usually just a parts manual with that age of german cranes- they didn't make service manuals for them, because you're supposed to know how it works. And the parts manuals will be in ----German.

It soinds like the farmers over shady grove beat out the germans. A guy who workered for glenn o hawbaker. Once told me why would you want a grove crane we had silage boxes on the farm they made and they where junk. I must say tho the rt58 I had there sure was some crude fit and finish on the old thing

As with @crane operator , My fave would be a little later RT with the 6BT Cummins because I am sentimental about those engines. I probably buy some problems in the crane itself with that vintage. His 81 would have a stinky ass engine but easier to work on.

Lucky for me I'm not largely interested in cranes

A modern tractor that just hammered for $70,750, no manuals or parts available for the last 100 years. Emotional bidding war. *

One thing old telescopic cranes are good for when sell cheap, removing boom cutting it down to use on a tow truck which has been done, because of the price new is out there.
