Oil Cooler for a Case 580SK Pressures?

Well I have progressed to the next issue on my 580SK. I had several people tell me that my steering cylinder was leaking, so I ordered a new cylinder. I checked it myself before pulling my old one... (it's kinda hard to turn the steering wheel while looking for the leak) Turns out it is my Oil Cooler. I took it off and to the not so local radiator shop. They cleaned it a bit for $60 and refused to work on it. A new one is about $900 - $1000. I cleaned it again myself, and am going to test it to find the leak. How much psi should I use to test and make sure that it will hold after the repair? It is a steel oil cooler silver soldered together. Thanks!

My 580 SE has a copper and brass cooler and uses rubber lines for vibration and alignment, I believe. I would say, no more than 15 psi.

After pressurizing it with air, submerse it in a tub of how water that has some detergent in it . Bubbles will appear. There may be more than one leak.

Well I submersed the cooler in a tank of water using a rubber tipped blow off with 40 psi. I have only found 1 leak which I soldered up. The rust is quite extensive. I have attempted to soda blast it - but in this heat and humidity it keeps clogging up. Off to buy more fitting to hard pipe instead of my rubber tipped air blow off set at 40 psi. It is too much work changing it to not make perfectly sure that I don't have any other issues.

Joe Friday said: The rust is quite extensive. Click to expand... With hydraulic oil being so expensive and the downtime another leak will incur, consider replacing that cooler. Especially when you know the condition of the cooler.

After a complete cleaning, I soldered the only leak I could find. Then I cleaned it again. I have removed all of the scale. I then pressure tested it to 100 psi submerged in a water tank. No Leaks. I just got done POR 15 painting all rusty areas. I will reweld the bottom panel back on and test it a final time. Then I plan to reinstall it.

    Hopefully it's a lasting repair.

Seems to be a bit of a semi common problem on the K SK,s had mine done by a radiator shop that also does hyd coolers, still leak free, good luck with your repair.

I am getting mixed results on how high I should pressure check it. I have had it to 110 psi. Should I go higher on my final pressure check? Some of my friends think so. Anybody know what the running pressure is on this? I would hate to needlessly blow it up by over pressuring it.
