chidogSenior Member#3 All that stuff has more use when its all put together, most parts end up in a scrap yard. And for old old junker stuff from the 60's and 70's, hobbyists, likely don't want to spend stupid prices everyone wants for their junk. And besides in that case just better to self look for an old parts machine yourself. Unless your just developing parts for the latest new, emission compliant stuff, I say its a losing business, especially in the land of environment crazy's.
nicky 68aJunior Member#4 Many, virtually all of the breakers yard for heavy equipment in the UK has now closed. The environmental issues and haven’t helped, but the main reason here is that the majority of construction sites wouldn’t allow old equipment through the gates onto site. The demand has dropped. I can’t say the same for small equipment breakers and truck breakers.
chidogSenior Member#5 Oh and no one in the US will be getting anything anyway. Shipping, tariffs, taxes and all that stuff. Advertise locally only or maybe 100 miles out. I want to buy a 13,000 machine 1800 miles away and most everyone wants 2 to 3 times the price of the machine to haul it. Its already a gamble at the original price.

Edit for the above. A 13,000 pound machine. Under 2k price range. 4 to 6K to ship. Talk about an expensive gamble.

I just started this business and from where I sit it's starting to pick up rather quickly. The customer brings me the trucks or equipment I dismantle it nicely put it in a shipping container then when it gets to its destination they put it back together and use it.

I just recently dismantled a Kenworth tandem steer roll off destined for Jamaica when it gets to Jamaica it's going to be retrofitted and become a dump truck.

John C.Super User#12 I've worked with a couple of heavy equipment mechanics who only dismantle machines and stack the components in containers for shipment overseas. Both have spots in their port district for the process and own their own lifting equipment for the process. They are always very busy and doing well.

I'm confused, are you a wrecking yard or are you working for someone who is selling equipment overseas and you are just doing the work of packing it for shipment? Joe H
