Hi everyone, I’m from Mendon, UT and I’m looking for advice on storing some of my farm equipment — mainly a tractor, plow, and harrow. I’m trying to decide whether a shipping container or a pole barn would be the better option. I’d like something that’s budget-friendly but also durable and long-lasting. Which option would you recommend for small farm equipment storage in this area, considering the weather and maintenance needs? Any suggestions or experiences would be really helpful.

Vetech63Senior Member#4 Containers are a LOT cheaper.
HarleyHappySuper User#5 Keep an eye out on FB Marketplace for some used trusses. Enough to span 2 containers and cover with metal roofing. Cheapest building around.
reganjNew Member#6 IF you decide to use mouse poison, DO NOT put it close to equipment. You are pulling the mice into where you do not want them. Put the poison away from where you do not want them to be where water will not dilute the poison, some type of covering over the poison. Or, get some kitties and do not over feed them.
homevizoNew Member#7 If a shipping container needs a lot of work to prevent those issues, would it still be worth it, or would a pole barn really be a better long-term investment? I’ll definitely keep an eye out on FB Marketplace for used trusses. That sounds like a solid idea to cover 2 containers with metal roofing. Thanks for the suggestion! Might be the cheapest option to create a decent structure
homevizoNew Member#10 I’ve heard that some metal building contractors also provide pre-built steel buildings. Although they might be more expensive, at least they’d be a long-term solution. The money spent will be worth it for peace of mind over the years. If anyone has experience with a good company, please do share. I did a quick search around my area and came across these two companies: https://northernsteelbuilding.com/ and https://www.vikingsteelstructures.com/ . Has anyone used their services, or if anyone knows of another reliable company, please guide me. Thanks!

Click to expand... I didn't read "long term" in your OP. Can you pile dirt against a pole barn ? A container, if you waterproof it, you can.
crane operatorSuper User#12 Budget friendly and durable long lasting are not usually compatible. We set a lot of conexes, for anything from temporary storage, to people building houses and cabins out of them. Don't bury one in the dirt. I like the conexes with parking between, but if you want doors and out of the cold, pole barn or steel building. For 10 years, wood pole barn. Last 40 years, steel building. Last 80 years, concrete walls.
