Hello. I work in the concrete cutting industry. We use diesel engine saws to cut concrete on bridges and highways. These saws are basically a 60-100 hp engine with a belt powered blade and hydraulic driven wheels. Often these saws get turned over on their side or flipped end over end off a bridge. I have 2 saws that have been turned over. One is a Deutz model TD 2.9 L4 and the other is a Hatz 4H50, both are Tier 4. Both have less than 200 running hours. Both these saws had oil in the charge air cooler system, manifolds, and cylinders. Both units have been professionally cleaned out but they both continue to smoke. Is there anything in the EGR/ Emission systems that could cause them to suck oil out of the crankcase? How else could oil be entering a cylinder? ANY ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks Rusty
Tier 4 Industrial engines smoke after rollover

Rusty RobertsNew Member#1 CoaldustSuper User#2 Hello Rusty, Welcome to the HEF. My first thought would be a damaged crankcase vent assembly allowing too much crankcase oil to flow past. Or, the crankcase filter is missing Next, maybe the piston rings are damaged from hydro lock after attempting a start after the roll-over.
mekanikSenior Member#3 How long have these engine ran since the incident? Oil in the exhaust can take quite a while to burn off and a small amount of oil can make a lot of smoke. I would make sure the oil level is good and let them run and see if the smoke clears up. Welcome too the forum!

CoaldustSuper User#6 Speaking of professional cleaning, my wife got home yesterday from her middle management, 8 hour salary day, that takes 12hrs. Her first task in the morning was to address the whiteboard at the women’s clinic. The evening contract cleaning crew had drawn various sized penises, in dry erase. A young MA said She was offended. My DW reminded her, this job is to literally take care of genitalia and don’t be offended. Then, DW called the contractor and asked them to please stop drawing penises. Do you terminate the only cleaning person willing to work 3rd shift? Who actually shows up everyday & cleans? No. You politely ask them to stop drawing genitalia on the company whiteboard. Then, offer them the left over lunches and deserts the big pharma reps dropped off at lunch time. So, hopefully that explains what “professional” cleaned entails. It just means no penises.
NigeLegend#7 This might be a stupid question, but if the rental customer overturned the conrete cutting machine causing X amount of damage to the engine, why not cut out the repairs completely, install a new straight-out-of-the-box fully-dressed engine complete with all the fruit, and bill them for it.? It might get through to somebbody a bit quick that "You didnt oughta done that" or not, as the case may be........
Truck ShopSuper User#8 Interesting thread went all the way through Deutz to Hatz to oil burning genitalia stories.
