Does anyone know of a replacement engine for a Cat 3034? Our 1999 Cat 906 wheel loader put #1 rod out the side of the block.

jlamatriceNew Member#1 NigeLegend#2 Your question is not 100% clear. Are you looking for a replacement engine identical to the one that's in the loader now (minus the hole in the block obviously...) or are you asking if there are other Cat/non-Cat engine alternatives that will fit in your loader..? If it's the first option you're investigating can you find a S/N and Arrangement Number on the engine Data Plate.? I can see 3 options - 139-9581, 163-0248, or 224-7498.
jlamatriceNew Member#3 We have been looking for a new Cat engine, but they are not being produced any longer. So we went to used side and we are not having any luck finding a good used Cat engine. We also are looking on the Perkins side. No luck there either. Maybe a retro fit? S/N# - 3NW028N8 and Arrangement # - 163-0248
NigeLegend#4 Did you search for complete engines by Part Number.? In addition to 163-0248 I also show 224-7498 as being suitable for the 906 installation. Only the oil pan and fuel filter are different to the 163-0248 arrangement. The 205-5490 Cylinder Block Gp shows as being still available in the Parts system despite the fact the 3034 engine is no longer manufactured
NigeLegend#5 Another thought. Your 3034 engine of prefix 3NW was used in non-turbo form in a number of the early skid steer loader models. The ones with no letter after the model number in other words. That range will be approximately 20 years old by now. Maybe a SSL engine exists somewhere in a machine being broken that you could use as a long block donor for your engine.? There are also a number of other early SSL models that use a 3034T engine which may increase the number of possible options for something used.
jlamatriceNew Member#6 WOW!! Thank you so much!! That will give us another avenue to travel.
NigeLegend#7 It's not going to magically find you another engine or long block, but at least you now have a few more options.
Birken VogtSenior Member#8 I am not 100% on what Cat crosses into Perkins/Shibaura but it looks like it should be the same as a Perkins 404D22T (for turbo). Very common engine all over the place. The question is, what turbo arrangement (if any) yours has, aftercooled or no, what RPM and governor/pump it has, and if there are any differences in the hard parts (pistons, cam, etc.) from what you end up with. I suspect the flywheel, bell housing, etc. will all just bolt right on.
NigeLegend#9 The OP’s engine is non-turbo.

Birken VogtSenior Member#11 So non-turbo should be a simple Perkins 404D22, very common engine in my world (generators). There are lots on the internet for sale but I don't know how to get a good one for sure.
jlamatriceNew Member#12 Thank you guys. That gives us some good information to use as we continue to find an engine. Have a great weekend!!
